The Gift Card is a  physical or virtual card with a prepaid credit  that the gift recipient can use to purchase goods or services in the stores of a specific chain of stores.

The Gift Card, or Gift Certificate, is a physical or virtual card with a prepaid credit that the recipient can use to purchase goods or services in the stores of a specific chain of stores, promotions reserved for employees, customers, suppliers or as a prize in contests or points collected.

The Gift Card is the right vehicle for chain stores and franchises.

A single prepaid credit to be used at all stores belonging to the sign that manages the campaign, regardless of the point of sale that issued it ( circular Gift Card  ), or to be used only in the store that enabled it (Gift Card  not circulate ).

The current legislation establishes that the Gift Card must meet three requirements:

  1. Validity: the credit must have an expiration date (normally 12 months from the activation date), beyond which it can no longer be used.
  2. Value: the maximum amount is 2999.99 euros according to the legislation on money laundering.
  3. VAT: the purchase of the Gift Card is not subject to VAT application, therefore, in the case of invoicing, it is excluded from the field of application of the tax pursuant to art. 2, co. 3, lett. a), Presidential Decree 633/1972.
